Pilot Workshop - May 21, 2025

In May, we were invited by the Kitchener Bird Team to host a pilot workshop in the Square Peg event space at the City of Kitchener. The Kitchener Bird Team is a subcommittee of Waterloo Region Nature and leads educational programs and activities that support Bird Friendly Cities.

Our inaugural workshop was truly a flying success: participants learned to shape and weave soaked willow into bird forms, and we learned just as much about how to make the process clearer, smoother, and more accessible. We are especially grateful to our first wonderfully patient participants — our good-humoured “guinea pigs” — who helped us work out the kinks in the willow (sometimes quite literally, as a few ambitious bends led to the occasional crack!). Their curiosity, flexibility, and encouragement helped shape the workshop into what it is becoming, and we deeply appreciate the time, care, and support they shared with us.
